Montgomery County Utility District No. 3 - 1999 Lift Station Upgrades

Three of the Montgomery County UD No. 3 lift stations (Administration, Dawns Edge, and Capetown) had wet well/dry well configurations with flooded suction pumps and control panels that were located below ground. In order to update the daily runtime logs and perform equipment maintenance, the operations and maintenance personnel were required to enter a confined space and subject themselves to potentially hazardous atmospheres. The scope of these three projects included installation of submersible pumps, piping modifications to accommodate the new pumps, installation of new aboveground control panels, replacement of the electrical service equipment, and miscellaneous sitework. A new reinforced concrete top slab was constructed at the Capetown Lift Station.

The April Point North and April Point South Lift Stations had aboveground self-priming pumps, aboveground piping, and aboveground controls. All of the equipment was in poor condition and had reached the end of its practical service life. Additionally, there were no locking hatches on the wet wells; the capacities of the existing pumps were more than double the actual design flows; and the tops of the wet wells were below the level of the San Jacinto River Authority's flowage easement around Lake Conroe, which subjected the lift stations to potential inundation. The scope of these two projects included installation of submersible pumps, piping modifications to accommodate the new pumps, installation of new aboveground control panels, replacement of the electrical service equipment, and miscellaneous sitework. The existing wet wells were retained. However, the existing top slabs were demolished and new reinforced concrete top slabs were constructed above the San Jacinto River Authority's flowage easement.
