Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion - Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 70

Expansion of this plant included the conversion from a fixed film RBC process to suspended growth activated sludge. Continued usage of the existing RBC's was not feasible and a new aeration basin was constructed. Fine-bubble diffusers were installed in the aeration basin to conserve energy and reduce the plant's electrical costs. The existing RBC shafts were removed from their basins and the empty tanks converted to aerobic digesters. The total capacity of the plant was increased from 0.65 MGD to 1.2 MGD. Many of the existing components such as the fine screens, clarifier, and controls were reused in the expansion lowering the overall cost of the project.
