Coles Crossing Regional Detention Facilities
Jones & Carter, Inc.'s Hydraulics & Hydrology Engineers created a regional detention facility to offset the increased peak flows in a 1,200-acre development, which was due to the addition of more than 2,400 homes. Coles Crossing also contains a mixture of commercial, retail, and multifamily development along major thoroughfares. We designed the drainage and detention facilities to control downstream flood levels to pre-development conditions. The design consisted of two detention basins to mitigate the increased flow. One basin is an in-line basin with the primary purpose of providing storage volume. The other is a multipurpose facility with a weir, control structure, and an outfall to Cypress Creek. These two facilities provide detention to approximately 1,000 acres of existing and proposed development within the Cypress Creek watershed.
