Big Fossil Creek Greenbelt
As the civil sub-consultant for this project, Jones & Carter, Inc.'s responsibilities included the preparation of plans and specifications for approximately three miles of jogging/bicycle paths, two parking areas, three footbridges, two major low water crossings of existing streams, minor drainage structures and erosion control, as well as overall site grading.
The final design of this project included the construction of a softball field for joint use by the City and Haltom High School, a picnic shelter and restroom facilities, a large central playground, picnic stations and access to local neighborhoods. The design of the park takes full advantage of the topography of the site by meandering the path along the banks of Big Fossil Creek and White's Branch Creek, through existing stands of large oak and pecan trees, creating a scenic view from a picnic station on a bluff overlooking the creek.
The large parking lot, picnic shelter, and playground are nestled into a densely wooded area where special efforts have been taken to preserve large trees, and the softball field has been located adjacent to a slope to allow for spectator seating on a natural hillside.
