Analyze, visualize and realize. That is the promise of Jones & Carter, Inc.'s Geographic Information Systems. Imagine being able to see all of the characteristics of a tract of land or geographic area, and how they interact with each other. From geographic and environmental data to consumer statistics, GIS layers information in a way that allows direct comparison of data sets.
In the strictest sense, GIS is a combination of hardware, software and data that create a model used to evaluate and analyze existing conditions. Some of the benefits of Jones & Carter, Inc. GIS include:
- Facility Management
- On-Demand Decision Making
- Improved Mapping / Increased Efficiency
- Data warehouse and storage
- Water District GIS and GASB34 Analysis
- Aerial Mapping
- Topographical Mapping
Jones & Carter, Inc. provides a number of municipalities with GIS services. Our GIS system assists our clients in locating utilities for water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer lines, as well as locating points such as manholes, valves, and plugs. We can also locate roadways, water plants, lift stations, water treatment plants, city buildings, and park and recreational areas. Each identified facility also details associated data such as original construction date, designing engineer, life expectancy, repair information and much more.
GIS is an invaluable tool for municipalities needing to summarize data with original and replacement costs. Many of our clients have come to rely on GIS data to assist them in complying with GASB34 requirements.
County Land Information SystemsEfficient county land management often called for customized data tailored to the specific requirements of each county. Jones & Carter, Inc. has created one-of-a-kind land information systems for Harris and Fort Bend counties in Texas. Included in these systems are data from a wide variety of sources including the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), county engineering departments, City of Houston (COH), General Land Office (GLO), Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), county appraisal districts, and more.
In this type of GIS, the data layers include parcels, census blockgroups, city limits and extra-territorial jurisdiction boundaries, zip codes, school districts, flood zones along with 1-foot aerial imagery for the entire county.
Interested in land outside of Harris or Fort Bend counties? Jones & Carter, Inc. is currently developing land information systems for Brazoria, Montgomery and Waller counties which will incorporate similar data as the current land information systems allowing our clients to assess properties of interest for future developments.
GIS Viewing Options
Jones & Carter, Inc. GIS clients have the option to view data on these media:
- Compact Disc (CD) along with a free program viewer.
- Printed detailed maps or a key map type book.
- Web-based data, which requires no software on the user side.
When the client prefers to view their data on a computer, we provide them with a CD along with a free GIS viewer. The viewer, ArcExplorer from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), allows the user to view and query the data for desired results. This allows them to symbolize their data to meet the needs of the map and then print it or create an image for a presentation.
For detailed maps, Jones & Carter, Inc. creates a key map type book. Each page of the key map is a portion of an overall grid showing the utilities within that area along with an aerial photograph and all necessary labeling to detail the properties of the feature.
For the clients that prefer the flexibility of viewing their data online, Jones & Carter, Inc. will create and maintain a GIS website catered to their specific needs. Each website is accompanied with extra links important to the area such as Harris or Fort Bend county appraisal districts, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the City of Houston or Sugar Land.
