Ice Skate in the City at Discovery Green

Discovery Green is a 12-acre green space in the heart of the city, with a seasonal ice skating rink currently in place, a small lake for kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, two dog runs, a children’s area, and plenty of room for recreation. There are year-round special events, including art and light installations, stage performances, festivals, movie screenings, and pop-up markets.

Join Saint-a at Saint Arnold Brewery


Saint Arnold stakes its claim as Texas’ oldest craft brewery. With a restaurant, daily tours, and Santa coming to visit, it is also a great place to visit and take family and friends during the holidays.

 Peruse the Houston Zoo

With fifteen miles of LED lights, it is easy to enjoy a stroll through and enjoy the Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo. The Zoo is the perfect place for families to visit this time of year. In previous years on Christmas Eve, the Houston Zoo has had some of the animals open their Christmas presents a little early. Be sure to check their schedule in advance.

 Catch a Show Downtown

Hobby Center

The Hobby Center downtown is a great place to be no matter the time of year or the show. This holiday season Hobby is presenting Potted Potter, a unique twist on the Harry Potter series and a tale as old as time with Beauty and the Beast.

The Jones|Carter team is currently re-designing Bagby Street, which runs in front of the Hobby Center, to make the area more walkable and bikeable.


The Houston Ballet

The Houston Ballet is performing a seasonal favorite: The Nutcracker. The performance will be at the Wortham Theater Center in downtown Houston.

Enjoy a Scenic Carriage Ride in River Oaks

Grab yourself a cup of cocoa and take a drive through the River Oaks District. Thousands of lights are wrapped in beautiful ways around mansions and huge oaks. Don’t miss River Oaks Country Club, Inwood Drive, Willowick, and Del Monte streets.

The J|C team performed the reconstruction of Kirby Drive in the River Oaks District to help improve drainage and augment mobility in the area.


 Explore the Buffalo Bayou

Houston’s crown jewel, Buffalo Bayou Park, is a 160-acre green space in downtown Houston. With beautiful gardens, trails, dog parks, public art, and a not-so-secret underground cistern. Even if the outdoors isn’t your thing, there is an ongoing calendar of events with a little something for everyone any time of year.
