The Jones|Carter team was contracted by the Challenger School Foundation to perform civil engineering services for the Challenger School in Plano. The school is located on a 9.22-acre site at the intersection of Spring Creek Parkway and Communications Parkway, just west of the Dallas North Tollway.

The Challenger School is a private school for students from Pre-K through 8th grade. The school is located near the fast-growing Legacy West development and within two miles of several large business headquarters, such as FedEx, Toyota, Liberty Mutual, and JP Morgan Chase that bring thousands of families to Plano, driving the need for more educational facilities.

When designing the site grading, minimal retaining walls were utilized to balance the earthwork of the site as efficiently as possible while maintaining accessible grading parameters in the school’s playground, parking, and sidewalk areas.

After the completion of the civil design drawings, the J|C team coordinated with the building design team to retrofit a storm shelter in the school’s multi-purpose room.

The J|C team prepared the plan and profile of the Challenger School’s utility connection to the 20-inch public water line within Communication Parkway. The team also developed a SWPPP, coordinated permitting, and provided construction phase services. Additionally, J|C provided topographic and tree surveying as well as preliminary and final platting and site planning.

Due to the school’s location, stringent design standards were required for the driveways, proposed right turn lanes, and the proposed left turn lane. J|C designed the left-turn lane on Communication Parkway per City requirements. The school is in a Regional Employment zone, which required J|C to coordinate a cross-access easement with the adjacent medical office development.
