The Commemorative Air Force National Aviation Education Center is a 47,000-square-foot education facility and museum in Dallas, TX. Located at the Dallas Executive Airport, the center will be used to teach students about aviation technologies, aircraft history and leadership development. When complete, the facility will include a STEM Innovation Hangar for historical aircrafts, 10,000-square feet of workshop and classroom space and a flight museum. The education center is phase one of the Commemorative Air Force’s plan for an aviation campus called the CAF National Airbase.
Jones|Carter is providing civil design services for the facility along with the 90,000± square-foot aircraft pad and taxiway. The project will require realignment of an existing roadway, water and wastewater mains to better serve the building. An existing roadside ditch will also be rerouted to a newly constructed concrete open channel with rock riprap to improve drainage within the development.
Because of the facility’s location at the Dallas Executive Airport, our team had to navigate regulations and oversight for the city’s aviation department and the FAA in addition to standard city requirements.
The project began design in early 2019 with construction expected to commence in December 2019.
