Jones|Carter is the design engineer for the improvements to the intersection of State Highway (SH) 29 and County Road (CR) 200 and Loop 332 in Liberty Hill in western Williamson County. This project will improve safety and mobility helping to remove bottlenecks and relieve overall congestion in the area. This section of roadway is high profile as it serves as a major route to citizens in the western part of Liberty Hill, as well as the school system. The average daily traffic in this intersection exceeds 21,000 vehicles.
The J|C team is providing designs to add dedicated right and left turn lanes as well as through lanes on CR 200 at SH 29. A right turn lane from northbound SH 29 onto CR 200 traffic signal modifications. The team is also developing drainage improvements at the intersection.
Construction phasing of this project was a critical component that involved consistent communication between the team and several stakeholders. Due to the high level of traffic, construction was sequenced to minimize the impact to weekday commuters by restricting major lane closures to night and weekend work. By keeping construction workers away from the moving traffic, the traffic control plan created a safer environment for both workers and the traveling public. Williamson County, the City of Liberty Hill, TxDOT, and surrounding business owners were consistently updated and communicated with to ensure a full understanding of the project as well as the traffic control phasing component.
