Jones|Carter was contracted by the City of Corinth to create a master drainage plan for the Lynchburg Creek watershed. The watershed runs through the center of the City and drains nearly two square miles of the City into Lake Lewisville.
The City is in the process of updating the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps for Lynchburg Creek through the North Central Texas Council of Government’s Coordinating Technical Partnership agreement with FEMA. From the City’s awareness of flooding and drainage concerns within the watershed and through the update process three key areas of concern have been identified: Amity Village, Red Oak Drive, and the area between Corinth Parkway and Interstate 35 East.
To address the areas of concern, the J|C team is evaluating alternatives through hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. Additionally, the J|C team is evaluating existing drainage infrastructure which outfalls into Lynchburg Creek and its tributaries. The evaluations will identify erosion issues that may result in property damage or bridge scour at outfalls and instream structures. Similarly, J|C will observe ditches, culverts, and inlets within the watershed to note apparent capacity and maintenance issues.
J|C will document the evaluation and results in a master drainage plan that the City will use as a tool to identify and implement future projects that will help reduce the frequency and severity of flooding in identified areas. The J|C team will also assess grant opportunities to assist the City in funding the improvements. This project will aide Corinth in positively impacting both existing residents and future developments.
The master drainage plan is to be completed in 2018. For other exciting projects, visit our Hydrology & Hydraulics page.
