year old structure
Built in 1972, what was once a recycling facility in East Austin is now a creative office space called UpCycle. Keeping with the theme of reuse, 95% of the existing building was repurposed as part of the new structure, including old graffiti-covered walls. The office building boasts approximately 81,000 SF of office space and sits atop 3+ acres off Hidalgo Street.
Jones|Carter provided design and permitting services for several aspects of the UpCycle facility, including the adjacent parking lot, which was designed to avoid existing heritage trees; the sidewalks around the building to ensure ADA compliance; and the drainage and utilities for the building. Additionally, the team designed a stacked water quality and detention pond to support the building. In order to develop patio areas at the facility, a Site Plan Exemption was required. J|C prepared the necessary documentation to receive the exemption.
